A few weeks ago, I made the decision to split my book into two volumes, making volume one 152 pages. That being said, I am now 67 percent complete with volume 1. The pencils and lettering are finished and I’ve begun the submission process to publishers. As I continue to plow ahead with all of this, I decided to do the first pass at the cover. This may not be the final cover for the book, but I wanted to at least get an example of what the cover might look like for pitch and promotion purposes. I’m hoping to have the book finished by August 1st at the latest.
So I decided to give the logo a much needed update. It’s mostly just a polishing up of the old logo. Cleaning up the linework, improving the colors. The biggest change is to the skull. There was far to much detail and sloppiness there.
As for the book itself, I’m still moving ahead full speed. The new page count for the book is 262 pages. It’s a monster. I’m over 50% finished with the pencils. I’m hoping to be done with the pencils within the next couple months, after which I will be close to starting the submission process to publishers.
Originally I had planned on waiting until the book was fully finished to start submitting, but the more I learn about the industry, the more I feel confident that just having a book that is fully readable, with a good helping of finished art is more then satisfactory.
Anyways, back to work!
First in a series of paintings I plan on doing.
Print to come soon.
Spent the weekend beating Tomb Raider. IT’S AMAZING!!
I’m going to experiment with broadcasting while I work on Jackie Rose. Come check it out!
Live Video streaming by Ustream
Do you want to see a five page sneak peek from Jackie Rose? Then head on over to to my Behance portfolio, because that’s the only place you’ll find it!
Wanted to update those watching on the progress of the book.
Thumbnails: 85 pages
Pencils: 75 pages
Inks: 66 pages
Colors: 41 pages
I’m holding off on coloring anymore until the book is fully inked. Hoping to get some flatting assistance on that.
The book is shaping up to be around 160 pages long.
I had hoped to be further along than this at the end of the year, but circumstances change. Throwing away all of chapter 2 that I had finished, and then spending several months in re writes took a lot of time I wasn’t counting on. Many lessons learned there, but I’m happy to be well back on track.
I did this once before, but I’ve made improvements.
If you didn’t know, I’m kind of into LEGOS.
Not a whole lot to say, but I figured I would share a peek at one of the new pages
EDIT: *sigh* I told myself I wasn’t going to color this comic.. but I have no will power.
Bored of reading the production blogs that I never post here, because I’m a terrible blogger?
Well, I recently launched a new weekly strip, featuring our old pal, Newman (who some of you may know of). The second strip just went up today. I will be posting up new pages on Mondays.
So feel free to head on over and check it out!
As far as Jackie Rose is concerned, production continues to chug along at a healthy pace.
